In Pomona, at the 2011 Winternationals, Mother Nature washed out Friday’s qualifying but surprised both racers and spectators she unleashed a hail storm at the track Saturday morning. But as the skies cleared later in the day on Saturday and into Sunday, fans enjoyed some great qualifying runs, close races, and even more surprises.
Surprises we found here at Goin’ Rounds:
- Erica Enders qualifies #1 in Pro Stock with a run of 6.553 and a personal track record speed of 211.69 in her Za Za Energy Chevy Cobalt. Unfortunately her car breaks during a burn-out in the second round.
- Larry Dixon closed out a great day of qualifying with a national-record pass of 3.770, and a new national record at 324.98 to claiming the #1 spot momentarily, only to lose in the first round to Terry McMillen.
- Tony Schumacher laid down the fastest Top Fuel speed at 327.03 mph, which is a new national record.
- The 2009 NHRA Pro Stock Champion, Mike Edwards fails to qualify.
- An all Morgan Lucas Racing final, with Morgan besting teammate Shawn Langdon to take home the Wally. It was Morgan’s first final round appearance since Memphis in 2009.
