When most people think of Anaheim I’m sure Disneyland or the Angels and their “Rally Monkey” comes to mind. Not for the fans of the PBR. They think BULL RIDING, as evidenced by the large crowds both last Saturday and Sunday when the PBR made it annual pilgrimage to Southern California.
For its 15th visit, the PBR cowboys did not disappoint. Guilherme Marchi & Austin Meier were like a couple of heavyweight boxers trading blows. Both cowboys covered all 4 bulls they faced over the weekend. In the championship round, Austin Meier rode Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey for 89 points to take the lead and forcing Marchi to cover Too Sexy and score higher than 89 to win the event. Marchi not only made the whistle, but scored 89.5 points to take home the buckle.
In other news, NYC champ Cody Nance had a very disappointing weekend. After going 5 for 5 in New York, Nance went 0 for 2 in Anaheim and drops to #2 in the BFTS Standings.
The PBR's Amazing Racer Cord McCoy had a nice bounce back weekend going 2 for 3 as did Justin Koon by going 2 for 4 after both cowboys failed to cover any bulls and going 0 for 3 in NYC.
After 2 events you need keep your eye on one cowboy that is on fire and is “the one to watch” this season. That cowboy is Canada’s own, Ty Pozzobon. Ty is 5 for 9 (55.56%) after 2 events and in 4th place in the BFTS Standings (only 517.25 behind leader, Valdiron de Oliveira). Ty had only 4 qualified rides all of 2011.
On the livestock front, the bulls definitely had a good weekend versus the cowboys. 100 bulls were mounted yet only 37 qualified rides were made for a 37% average with Asteroid having the highest bull score at 46.75.
