Rodeo Weekend Wrap-Up 10/4

The champions at the Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo in Rosenberg, Texas – Trevor Brazile, Fred Whitfield, J.W. Harris et al – account for 68 national finals qualifications and 25 gold buckles. And then there was Sterling Wallace. The 21-year-old steer wrestler is an up-and-coming star from Justin, Texas, who entered the rodeo with $4,893 in career earnings. He had a time of 4.4 seconds in Rosenberg to earn $1,508, beating a field that included past Wrangler NFR qualifiers K.C. Jones and Sean Mulligan. Wallace also finished fourth in Hempstead, Texas, and leads the world standings after the first week of the season with $2,237. 


By winning the tie-down roping at the Waller County Fair & Rodeo in Hempstead, Texas, Justin Maass moved a step closer to reaching the $1 million career earnings milestone. Maass, of Giddings, Texas banked $1,818 with his 8.7-second run and now stands at $993,593 in 16 PRCA seasons.


A year ago, team roping header Blaine Linaweaver finished second at the San Dimas (Calif.) Western Days Rodeo paired with Caleb Twisselman. This time around he switched brothers, competing with Jake Twisselman, and won the rodeo with a time of 5.0 seconds. 


The Brazile Watch: Trevor Brazile won the all-around title at the Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo in Rosenberg, Texas – his first title of the 2012 season – with checks totaling $2,100.
