Rocky Mountain Raceways Celebrates 15 Years With Huge Nitro Jam June 17-18

By Nitro Jam Media

When it comes to putting on a show, no one does it better than Nitro Jam and Rocky Mountain Raceways.
Top Fuel returns to Salt Lake City with more 300 mph action!

When the pair first teamed up in 2009 with a one-off event featuring many of the elements used under the current Nitro Jam format, it was a smash hit. Then in 2010 when Nitro Jam brought in the big show, things really took off.

Last year’s event featured the largest crowd in the history of Rocky Mountain Raceways and produced two full days of incredible championship racing under the lights in Utah and when Nitro Jam returns this season with its biggest show yet, you can expect the unexpected.

SLCNJ 1“The Salt Lake Nitro Jam has a special place in my heart. We started with a special standalone event in 2009 and since then it has grown into one of the biggest Nitro Jam events on the schedule,” said Nitro Jam President Aaron Polburn. “And to help celebrate Rocky Mountain Raceway’s 15th anniversary we are planning a huge event June 17-18 that will include our most exciting lineup yet.”

In 2011 Rocky Mountain Raceways is celebrating its 15th year of world-class racing highlighted by its newest spring tradition, the Salt Lake Nitro Jam presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Since its grand reopening in 1997, Rocky Mountain Raceways has strived to be a state-of-the-art racing facility and so far the track has lived up to its high standards.

And to celebrate 15 years of racing this year’s Salt Lake Nitro Jam presented by NAPA Auto Parts will feature perhaps the strongest lineup yet of thrilling nitro classes and show elements that is sure leave the anticipated sellout crowd speechless.

Highlighting the second-annual Salt Lake Nitro Jam will be three thrilling nitro classes including the quickest and fastest race machines in the world in Top Fuel Dragsters. Also in action the weekend of June 17-18 will be eight of the best Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars in the world and a lineup of out-of-control Nostalgia Fuel Altereds.

Capping the two-night event will be a pair of debut acts including the car-crunching, fire-breathing Megasaurus and the incredible “Battle of the Monster Trucks” as the world-famous Grave Digger monster truck hits the strip for a showdown with the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi.

All of the nitro classes and thrill acts will compete twice each night with championships awarded in each class.
SLCNJ 2The Salt Lake Nitro Jam presented by NAPA will also feature a full weekend of championship sportsman racing at one of the top drag racing facilities in the west. Home of defending Summit SuperSeries champion Chris Hall, the racing at RMR is always of the highest caliber and racers can expect more of the same June 17-18.

Among the stars of this year’s Salt Lake Nitro Jam are Top Fuel world champions Bruce Litton and Bobby Lagana as the Lucas Oil boys go head-to-head at over 300 miles per hour in front of one of the biggest drag racing crowds seen all year.

Joining the stars of Top Fuel are eight of the top Funny Car drivers in the country competing in one of the biggest Prostalgia NFC showdowns of the entire year. Among the heavy-hitters that will make the trip to the mountains of Utah are “Mr. Explosive” Mark Sanders, Dale Pulde in the legendary “War Eagle” Trans Am, local star Jack Harris in “Nitro Thunder”, Roger Garten and the “War Eagle” team, the fastest man in all of Funny Car Tim Boychuk and more.

SLCNJ 3Rounding out the nitro fun is a handful of the most extreme race machines in all of drag racing – the out-of-control competitors in Nostalgia Fuel Altered. At one point banned from organized drag racing competition, these crazy contraptions produce modern speeds in nostalgia machines creating some of the most intense passes in the sport. Among the legendary machines coming to Salt Lake City are Nanook, Nasty Benjamin, Pure Hell and more.

Following some of the best nitro racing in the country fans will be treated to a night of incredible entertainment featuring a rare drag race between a modern Funny Car and a nitro-powered dragster, the car-crunching, fire-breathing Megasaurus and the Utah debut of the “Battle of the Monster Trucks” as the world famous Grave Digger monster truck takes on the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi.
